Mediterranean Steak with Mushroom Barley

Last weekend my traveling husband happened to be home so we decided to have some family day and of course BBQ for dinner.
Since we don’t get to spend much time with my husband and he gets only one maybe two weekends at home each month I decided to forgo the usual hamburger and smokies fare.
I took out some sirloin steaks, rub them with grilling spices and let them rest for few hours till I figured out what I want to do with them.
During my last grocery trip I noticed new cheese product – Spreadable Feta. I picked up a little container to try it out.
BBQ night was the perfect time to try the spreadable Feta.
I paired it with fresh avocado for the Mediterranean taste. It turned out really well and it complemented the steak perfectly.

The strong Feta taste was toned down with the smooth and creamy avocado taste.
  • 4 – 8oz Sirloin Steaks
  • 2 Tbsp Steakhouse Rub (or your favorite spices)
  • 2-3 Tbsp Spreadable Feta (about 1/2 Tbsp per steak)
  • 1 Avocado (1/4 per steak)
  • Lemon Juice
In the morning rub the steaks with the Steakhouse rub and let rest in the fridge till dinner time.
On the hot grill or BBQ grill the steaks to your likeness (medium recommended). Spread 1/2 tablespoon or little more of spreadable Feta on each steak.
Slice avocado and drizzle it with lemon juice. Place 1/4 of avocado on each steak.

I served the steaks with Mushroom Barley Risotto. I usually make my own using Food Networks Michael Smith recipe, but I wanted to try PC Blue Menu Barley with Mushrooms (it was really good, but I would add more mushrooms into it next time).
