Breaded Burger with Cream Dill Sauce (Vyprážané Karbonátky & Kôprová Omáčka)


….there are so many dishes from my childhood that I consider a COMFORT FOOD….


Growing up in Eastern Europe…….almost everything was comfort food….especially when grandma made it.


We didn’t have drive-through….TV dinners…..


The closest we ever came to Fast Food was picking up salads…..rotisserie chicken or fried fish at local deli (I so miss that).


Today I want to share a recipe for one of many comfort meals of my childhood that I still make for make kids.

In Slovakia they are called Vyprážané karbonátky or Fašírky and I have no idea how to translate it…., but they are very similar to Breaded & Fried Hamburger or Meatballs.


One thing for sure…..they are juice…..delicious and highly addictive…….can’t have just one.






  • 1/2lbs Ground Beef
  • 1/2lbs Ground Pork
  • 1 Egg
  • 1/2 cup Milk
  • 1 Onion
  • 2 Kaiser Rolls (day old)
  • 2 Cloves Garlic
  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • Parsley
  • Bread Crumbs
  • Oil

STEP 1: Cut up Kaiser rolls into cubes. Place them in the bowl and pour milk over them. Put aside.

STEP 2: In a skillet on medium high heat saute finely chopped onion until translucent.Put aside.

STEP 3: In a large bowl combine together ground pork, ground beef, egg, crushed garlic, rolls soaked in milk and sauteed onion.Mix well and add salt, pepper and chopped fresh parsley.

STEP 4: From the meat mixture form about 3″ balls. Roll them in breadcrumbs.

STEP 5: In a deep skillet or deep fryer heat oil to about 180C. Flatten breaded burgers and fry them on both sides until golden brown.

STEP 6: Let them rest 5 minutes before serving.


During the cold months I serve my Breaded Burger or Vyprážané karbonátky or Fašírky with Creamy Dill Sauce (Kôprová Omáčka) and Mashed Potatoes.

In the summer I serve them with cold Potato Salad.

Ingredients for Dill Sauce:

  • 2 Tbsp Butter
  • 2 Tbsp Flour
  • 2 cups Cream or Milk
  • 2 Tbsp Vinegar
  • 2-3 Tbsp Sugar
  • 1/4 Fresh Dill
  • Salt
