My Cooking Lesson Adventure

There are many things that excite me as a foodie….., but there is no bigger excitement then getting others EXCITED about food….cooking….baking by sharing my knowledge and experiences…..

….especially if the others are children or teens…..the foodies of the future….

Few weeks ago my “daughter” Caitlin who took a summer job as an event coordinator for our local Boys & Girls Club to pay for her college to become a teacher – yes very proud of her asked me if I would possibly be interested & able to sponsor & teach few cooking & baking classes throughout the summer….

My Little Twitch Was My Sidekick….

Without a hesitation I jumped in….cause that’s what I do….I see a good thing and I jump in….feet first….brain later….

I was so excited until the reality set in…..seriously…..I just signed up to teach group of teenagers how to cook……

What do I know about teaching “real” people how to cook?…..Nothing….absolutely nothing….

….and these were teenagers….hormonal…..moody….know-it-all…..TEENAGERS…..speaking from experience with mine…..

….teenagers with sharp objects….fire….and ME….in a closed kitchen.

Caitlin Helping With Veggie Prep…

Well, I had couple weeks to prepare….mentally and otherwise.

I was  told that there will be a group of 10-12 teenagers  so I decided to divide them to groups and prepare complete menu from appetizer to dessert…..

Since I was sponsoring the event I made sure that the recipes came from my own blog little shameless self promotion there and even if they lose it they can find the recipe in the future….

Hormone Boy Signed Up For His Mom’s Cooking Lesson…

….morning of the D-day was here…..and to my surprise I woke up all excited and ready to teach….I was calm….cool as a cucumber….

I prepared very simple menu so even teens with limited kitchen skills will be able to do it…..

We started with appetizer: BRUSCHETTA w. MOZZARELLA

Main dish was : CRISPY CAESAR CHICKEN  with sauteed vegetables & rice pilaf

….and for dessert we made CHERRY COFFEE CAKE and CHOCOLATE TARTS w. CHERRY SAUCE

Youngest Girls Making Bruschetta…

The menu was perfect…..turns out I didn’t have to worry about anything…..

Every dish was fantastic….everyone did an awesome job…..with smile on their face….

Tasting Time….Appetizer First…..
….Chicken  Next
It’s Dessert Time…

I not only taught these kids how to prepare a complete dinner menu, but I did something new myself…..I conquered my fear….I taught my first COOKING LESSON…..

I had a blast and I can’t wait to do this again….this teaching gig is a piece of CAKE…..

…..and giving back to community never tasted better…..

….OK, OK…..I am done being cheesy…..that was the last one I promise!
