You probably noticed some changes around…..yes, I took the plunge…..I moved from blogger.
I have nothing against Blogger….it’s been good to me…..however….it was time to move.
Time to grow…..expand….time for more control and flexibility…..time to move to WordPress.
…..Anyway…..the move was very smooth thanks to my wonderful Hormone Boy who gave up couple hours of important teenage things and rescued his mother….THANK YOU, BABY!
I still have tons of tweeking up to do, but I rather share some recipes with you.
Boys are back at school….summer is almost gone….I am loving the cool evening and mornings….enjoying the warm days.
Before summer is completely gone we like to participate in few fun family activities…..one of them…..Midnight Movie In The Park…..
organized by our local businesses as a fundraiser for Boys & Girls Club and put on by Fresh Air Cinema.
…..it’s so much fun…..
….we get there couple hours early….pick our spot….enjoy picnic dinner….kids participate in different activities….dance around…get faces painted….we catch up with friends we haven’t seen all summer….
….then when sun goes down we grab few bags of fresh popcorn….cuddle up on blankets and enjoy the movie….
Every year I prepare picnic dinner for my family & friends….low key…..family fair. Well, this year I kicked up my picnic dinner a notch and prepared variety of fancy Finger Foods…..little fancy appetizers.
One of my appetizers was something I haven’t made or eaten since I lived in Slovakia and I couldn’t wait to try it out on my Canadian family.
I made something called Šunková Pena which is Savory Mousse and I stuffed it into puff pastry rolls. You can also serve it on crackers, crostini, bread….
Šunková pena – Savory Mousse is a great appetizer for wine parties….Sunday brunch….bridal showers….tea party.
- 200g Cooked Ham
- 1/2 cup Butter (softened)
- 1/2 cup Heavy Cream
- 1 Tbsp Horseradish
- 1/4 Parsley (finely chopped)
STEP 1: In meat grinder grind cooked ham twice till it’s fine.
STEP 2: In a bowl cream together ground ham, butter, horseradish and parsley until smooth.
STEP 3: In another bowl whip heavy cream until it’s almost turning into butter (little more then whipped cream for desserts).
STEP 4: Fold whipped cream into ham mixture. Add salt and pepper to taste.
STEP 5: Fill pastry bag with mousse and pipe into puff pastry rolls.
I baked regular size puff pastry rolls and I cut them into thirds to make small appetizers. It looks and taste much better then big puff pastry rolls.
Šunková pena – Savory Mousse Stuffed Puff Pastry was a huge hit with my movie watching community….maybe they were extra hungry being on the fresh air….whatever the reason was…..these little puff pastry rolls disappeared in no time…..
Did you officially said goodbye to summer yet? Do you have special family end of summer traditions or rituals beside cleaning the yard……that’s another story….
Hope you are having fantastic day…..enjoy what is left of the sunshine….
