“Chestnuts roasting on an open fire Jack Frost nipping at your nose ….”
It’s here …. it’s here …. time of ROASTED CHESTNUTS ….. hot cocoa …. candy canes…..
Roasted chestnuts bring childhood memories for so many of us ….. going to Christmas Markets ….. Christmas parades ….. holiday shopping ….. ice skating in an outdoor ring ….. and holding warm bag of delicious ….. perfectly roasted CHESTNUTS …..
Roasted Chestnuts to me personally means …… family ….. LOVE ….. snowy winters in Europe ….. shopping at Christmas Market with my parents.
After moving from Europe to Vancouver I was so excited when Christmas came around …….
…. as different as it was one thing remained the same ….. street vendors with warm and perfectly roasted CHESTNUTS.
Now living in a small town I miss going to town weeks before Christmas and not being able walk around …… grabbing bag of fresh ROASTED CHESTNUTS …….
I know ….. some of you are probably thinking ….. ” just roast your own chestnuts”
…..yes, over the years I have been trying to figure out the way how to roast chestnuts ….. I mean ….. the perfect way ….. the way I remember …..
Well, few winters ago I started asking some vendors if there is a secret to perfectly roasted chestnuts …… and guess what?
The secret to PERFECT Roasted Chestnuts is …….. cooking chestnuts in boiling water!
Today is your lucky day …… I will give you step by step on How To Roast Chestnuts ….. the perfect way.
STEP 1: Dry chestnuts. Place then on a tea towel and with small sharp knife make an X in the middle of each chestnut.
STEP 2: Drop chestnuts in a boiling water (little bit salted) and let them boil for 15 to 20 minutes or until they open up.
STEP 3: Drain chestnuts. Place them on a cookie sheet and roast them under low broiler for 2-3 minutes to give them the roasted look and taste.

TIP: For the perfect experience serve ROASTED CHESTNUTS in a newspaper cones just like the vendors do.
I’ve never tried roasting chestnuts myself, finding it intimidating. Thanks so much for making it seem easier! Have a lovely and happy, happy Christmas!
