Good morning, mateys !
Warm(er) weather ….. still waiting for WARM …. is upon us ….
…. that means dining Al Fresco in many restaurants around the sunny (not lately) Okanagan.
One of my favorite things about living in the Okanagan is sitting on a patio (preferably waterfront) with my family and/or friends enjoying cool beverage …. delicious food …. great conversation ….
…. what can be better then that?
One of the restaurants I like to visit is SALTY’S BEACH HOUSE in Penticton ….. right across the beach & Okanagan Lake …. perfect place for people watching ….
SALTY’S BEACH HOUSE has been the staple of the Okanagan for over 20 years ….. it holds a special meaning & memory for me …
… my hubby took me to SALTY’S for lunch 17 years ago after we found out that I am pregnant with our first baby …. after 4 years of infertility issues & treatments.
This was in June 2006 and I ordered Ceasar Salad & Iced Tea …..
I haven’t been at SALTY’S BEACH HOUSE since management changed in 2010 so I decided it was time to pay them a visit and see if the magic of SALTY’S is still there …
Of course, there were some changes …… the menu was updated & many delicious Caribbean inspired dishes were added ….
…. the upstairs changed into Oyster Bar called Black Pearl …. downstairs remained casual dining room.
We picked a sunny day …. got table on the patio (which is crazy buys during tourist season) ….. ordered cold drink ….
… and dived into the menu …..
My boys are huge burger lovers so of course …..
…. Hormone Boys ordered TORTUGA BURGER – Certified Angus chuck steak patty with crispy bacon, Manchego cheese & sweet house pickled beets. Served on fresh bun with umami tomato relish & crunchy house coleslaw.
… Little Peanut ordered regular (nothing regular about it) BURGER – Certified Angus chuck steak patty with hickory smoked bacon & cheddar. Served on kaiser bun with Salty’s burger sauce, sweet onions, lettuce, tomato & pickle.
I went for something lighter ….
I started with WEDGE SALAD – crisp (perfect) 1/4 head of Iceberg lettuce drizzled with creamy ranch yogurt dressing, balsamic glaze & candied pecans.
Then I finished with (perfectly done & seasoned) CRAB CAKES – Sweet Dungeness crab blended with sweet bell peppers & served with chipotle mayo.
The result: All changes of SALTY’S BEACH HOUSE were an improvement …. I love the new menu …. newer concept …..
Staff was friendly …. quick and knowledgeable ….. food was fantastic ….
I highly recommend SALTY’S BEACH HOUSE to all seafood & Caribbean flavor lovers.
